Hailey Bieber single-handedly set the hair standards with this popular beauty trend

While we've got our haircuts and colours of the autumn/winter 2023 szn down (cc. trend forecaster Tom Smith), there's always room to accessorise. And by that, I mean per the most popular and rising trend ATM, we're all for adding bows, ribbons and hair jewels alike into our tresses. Not up to date with what's hot and what's not? Well, allow me to fill you in, bc we could never be 'so last year'...

At the forefront of said hair trend, is none other than Hailey Bieber, who took to her Instagram feed earlier in the year with a carousel post that amassed over 2 million likes. In the pics, that she simply captioned: "🎀🎀💕", Hails wore her cropped bob hairstyle (that still reigns supreme, may I add) in a middle parting with two baby braids. However, to add that much-appreciated sense of 'cottagecore' (bare with me here), the model accessorised with tiny pink hair ribbons tied into bows.

What is cottagecore?

Now, ICYMI, TikTok coined this look 'cottagecore' a few years back and, aesthetically speaking, it embraces the charm of the countryside, aka an idealised representation of farm life. And yes, while this does sound very spring – think: floral, whimsical, dreamy, country living – many other celebs have brought this look forward for the chillier climes, opting for darker bow colourways.

Madison Beer, Sadie Sink, Nicola Peltz Beckham and Sydney Sweeney are among the roster of IT girls who jumped onto the hair bow bandwagon these past few months, all having shared their cottagecore interpretations online.

Making hair bows relevant again

However, it's our Queen, Sarah Jessica Parker and our Lady, Penelope Featherington I mean, Nicola Coughlan who are contributing toward and proving the timelessness of the trend. That is, not to mention its (it being, the bows) showcase throughout the recent A/W Fashion Week runways.

SJP chose to rock a gigantic, almost floor-length black ribbon at the NYC ballet gala in early October:

While for the Bridgerton S3 press day, Nicola opted for a mini selection inspired by Mrs Bieber herself:

Max Mara and Zimmermann also set the standards, styling their models' hair with wrapped variations of black ribbon:

So, for now, I'm off to recreate all of the above hair looks in order to live out my escapist fantasies... Pinterest could never.
