Halloween is over, which means that the most wonderful time of year is just around the corner. Before you know it, you’ll be hearing Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas is You” in every store you step into. It’s time to break out your cozy sweaters and wear all the festive shades of holiday red — especially on your nails because TikTok recently revived the staple crimson manicure thanks to a certain viral theory about the nail polish color.

Hailey Bieber is the latest celeb to make a case for red nail varnish. The model is known for her minimalist style and chic neutrals that her *chef’s kiss* wardrobe is built around (please refer to her black babydoll Halloween dress and her endless love for leather jackets). But in her recent holiday campaign with Tiffany and Co., Hailey chose an unexpected pop of color to pair with her classic all-black outfits.

The supermodel served very much modern Audrey Hepburn vibes in an assortment of black and white — think black plunging slip dresses with chiffon wing sleeves, a black mod shift dress with a white statement collar, and even a plunging black blazer top — to highlight her Tiffany and Co. bling.

In one of the campaign images, Hailey delicately posed a well-manicured hand against her face, highlighting a pair of gold and diamond statement earrings as well as simple stacked necklaces, bracelets, and a twisted gold ring. Her dainty cross and "lover" tattoos popped against her skin as she showed off a bright red nail polish that's a departure from her recent love affair with glazed donut nails.

If you've been seeing red nails popping up everywhere, you're not alone the classic color has been coming back in style thanks to a TikTok trend that Robyn DelMonte, a.k.a. @girlbosstown has coined the Red Nail Theory.

DelMonte explained that she noticed an increase in compliments on her nail color when she's rocking red nails. "I always thought that red nails was a grandma nail color, but then it hit me that in the '90s, [...] women had red nails a lot, especially our moms -- and I weirdly think guys are attracted to red nails because it reminds them of their moms." DelMonte continued, "I feel super powerful when I have them on." Some TikTok users pushed back on her theorizing — one comment saying "Sigmund freud would love this theory" has over 11,000 likes. "We have to stop proving freud right," another TikToker commented.

Like all Internet theories, interpret with caution — after all, the colors you choose to paint your nails with should be purely for your aesthetic expression and joy. The right person will appreciate you for you, nail polish or no nail polish. But if the festive red nails speak to your holiday-loving heart and make you feel stylish and fearless, give this trend a try. There's no denying that the feel-good boost you get from confidently rocking a bold color you love (like an unapologetic shade of scarlet) could be totally magnetic — now that's a flirting tip we can get behind.
