Hailey Baldwin says she was "ridden with guilt" when she first married Justin Bieber
Hailey Baldwin says she struggled with guilt in the first few months of marriage to Justin Bieber - because she wanted to be a "good girl".
In an interview with her church Hillsong's YouTube channel, the model admitted that guilt has been a running theme in her life, and became particularly difficult to manage during the first few months of marriage. She explained:
"I put extra guilt on myself to be this good girl, to fill this role of being like this goody two-shoes good girl, and what I learned leading up to being married is it's just not realistic. We all wish there were things we had never done, and we all wish there were decisions we didn't make and mistakes we didn't make."
And Hailey opened up about how she brought that guilt into her marriage, admitting:
But what I learned being married is that every mistake that I made and bad decision that I made and everything that I was making myself feel guilty for lead to me being married and me being a wife. But I think in the beginning, especially for the first six or seven months of being married, I was just ridden with guilt. I wish I hadn't done this. I wish I had just walked into this clean and free and clean slate but what it taught me is that it's just A, not realistic, and B, we all have guilt and we all shame for things we've done but it doesn't have to define who we are, and it didn't have to define me in my relationship.
She didn't share any specifics, but it looks as though she's not the only one being super honest. In the couple's new Facebook Watch series The Biebers On Watch, he admitted he wished he'd stayed celibate until marriage.
"If I could go back and not have to face some of the bad hurt that I went through... yeah, I probably would've saved myself for marriage."
He continued: "I don’t think it’s too much information, I think it’s helpful. Sex can be kind of confusing when you’re being sexually active with anybody."
