Hailee Steinfeld Responds to Niall Horan Dating Rumors
The dating rumor mill began a-churning once again last month when Niall Horan took to Instagram to wish Hailee Steinfeld a happy birthday. "Happy birthday to the loveliest person on the planet and one of my best friends," the One Direction singer wrote at the time, adding "Love ya Hails" to the end of his caption.
Needless to say, some fans took that 'gram and ran with it, assuming that there might be something ~romantic~ going on between the two stars. "My ship!" one Instagram user commented, while others simply typed a flurry of heart emoji to express their thoughts.
But now, Hailee has put the rumors to rest. Well, sort of.
While chatting with Us Weekly on the red carpet at Lip Sync Battle Live: A Michael Jackson Celebration on Thursday, January 18, the Pitch Perfect star addressed the gossip. "I feel so lucky that [my fans] care enough about me to know what I’m doing every second of every day, but I think that sometimes it’s hard for people in general to realize that there are boundaries to a person’s life and personal life," she said when asked about Niall Horan. Hailee went on to say that she's a "very private person" but also noted that "I do love that I have the opportunity to share with them what I’m comfortable with and they’re there to listen and support me."
Even though Hailee didn't give a clear-cut response, the sentiment in her message is pretty clear: her personal life is her business alone. And while it's understandable for fans to get excited about two of their favorite celebrities potentially coupling up, it's also important to respect those celebs' boundaries. In this case, it seems as though Hailee and Niall might just be friends — but the more important piece is to give them the privacy they deserve either way.
