Hailee Steinfeld Is an '80s Action Hero in the New Trailer for "Transformers" Prequel "Bumblebee"

This movie cannot come soon enough.

The first real, lengthy look at the forthcoming Transformers prequel Bumblebee is here, and get ready to see its star Hailee Steinfeld in a whole new light.

In the new trailer, which dropped on Sept. 24, Bumblebee has a new partner-in-crime: Hailee, playing young mechanic Charlie Watson. Set in 1987, Charlie meets Bumblebee the same way original Transformers hero Sam Witwicky met the musically-inclined Autobot, picking out her birthday present — a used car — at a junkyard. When Charlie brings her new car home and looks under the hood, she finds out that there's more to her beat-up new wheels than meets the eye.

In the official Bumblebee trailer, fans get to see more of Charlie's relationship with Bumblebee as well as learning about Bumblebee's mission, which Charlie is drawn into. We learn that Bumblee has been chased off of his home planet, Cybertron, by the Autobot's enemies, the Decepticons. As two Decepticons persuade a government task force (led by John Cena) that Bumblebee is the real enemy, Charlie has to go into full hero mode to help Bumblebee fulfill the mission given by Optimus Prime, who we also get to peep in the trailer.

Bumblebee will see Hailee go into full action hero-mode — a refreshing change of pace for her, no doubt, after starring in two Pitch Perfect movies and preparing to play poet Emily Dickinson in a new Apple TV series.

Bumblebee arrives in theaters in December. Check out the latest trailer below:
