Hagerstown YMCA takes lead in Healthy Kids Initiative for 30th year

HAGERSTOWN, Md. (DC New Now) — The warm temperature has kids in Hagerstown thinking about their upcoming summer vacations.

The timing was perfect for Washington County’s Healthy Kids Day at the YMCA.

It is a way to showcase all the worthwhile neighborhood activities when out of the classroom.

When do pools open in Maryland?

That includes the opening of the Y’s community pools and youth camps at city parks and the return of minor league baseball to Hagerstown, with the Boxcars season opening this coming weekend.

For the Healthy Kids festivities at the Y, the Hagerstown Police K-9 team was on hand to welcome families to the event.

“We do this to encourage healthy living for our community from a young age,” says Maria Kramer, chief operating officer for the YMCA Hagerstown. “It’s all about healthy lifestyles. Healthy living is important to everybody, kids and adults.”

This years marks the 30th year the Hagerstown Y has organized the Healthy Kids Initiative.
