Gypsy Rose's Ex Got A Significantly Longer Prison Sentence Than She Did
Gypsy Rose Blanchard-Anderson, a victim of child abuse who served eight years in prison for her role in her mother Dee Dee Blanchard's murder, is starting a new life since leaving prison. This begs the question: Where is her ex-boyfriend, who allegedly conspired in the crime with her?
If you’re not familiar with the sordid story, Dee Dee pretended that her daughter Gypsy was sick, with diseases ranging from leukemia to MS and others, as a result of her Munchausen syndrome by proxy. In 2015, Nick Godejohn, Gypsy's boyfriend at the time, stabbed Dee Dee to death in her home in Springfield, Missouri. Both Gypsy and Nick were arrested for Dee Dee's murder, with Gypsy accused of masterminding the crime and her ex executing the plan.
In 2016, Gypsy, who is now 32, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and was sentenced to 10 years at Chillicothe Correctional Center in Missouri, per People. Nick Godejohn was convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to life in prison after first pleading not guilty.
Is Nicholas Godejohn still in prison today?
Yes. While Gypsy worked out a deal with prosecutors because of the extraordinary circumstances of her abuse and was given a lighter sentence, Nicholas remains in prison, serving a life sentence with no opportunity for parole at the Potosi Correctional Center, according to The Springfield News-Leader.
In August 2022, Nicholas requested a judge to strike his previous conviction and grant him a new trial, claiming he had ineffective counsel, per the newspaper. His request was denied, pe KYTV.
How did Gypsy and Nicholas meet?
Nicholas, who was living in Big Bend, Wisconsin, met Gypsy on a website for Christian singles in October 2012, per the Springfield News-Leader.
The pair dated long distance and exchanged hundreds of text messages that were read out loud at Nicholas’s trial in 2018, per the newspaper. They fantasized about getting married and having children. In a 2019 Oxygen documentary, Nicholas said the days he spent with Gypsy were “the most intense and magical and awe-inspiring days” of his life.
They plotted to kill Dee Dee.
During her trial, Gypsy said she and Nicholas planned her mother’s murder. Nicholas traveled from Wisconsin to Gypsy and her mother’s home in Missouri, per the Springfield News-Leader. Nicholas stabbed Dee Dee in her sleep, killing her, while Gypsy hid in the bathroom. He and Gypsy had sex and then fled for Wisconsin, per the newspaper.
Are Gypsy and Nicholas still together?
No. Gypsy married Ryan Anderson Scott in June 2022, per The Springfield News-Leader. But Nicholas said Gypsy was his “soul mate” in the 2019 doc and said he’ll always have feelings for her.
