Gypsy Rose Blanchard is about to be a free woman.

New reports reveal that Gypsy, who infamously played a role in the death of her own mother Clauddinnea "Dee Dee" Blanchard in 2015, has been granted parole and will be leaving prison three years earlier than her original release date.

The Missouri Department of Corrections confirmed to KMBC News on Thursday, Sept. 28 that Gypsy, now 32, will be released in December, after serving only seven of her initial 10-year sentence.

At the time of her mother's death, Gypsy's story made national headlines, later inspiring the documentary Mommy Dead and Dearest, as well as a Hulu TV series entitled The Act, which notably starred Joey King and Patricia Arquette.

While growing up, Gypsy experienced mental and physical abuse for years at the hands of her mother, who is believed to have suffered from Munchausen by Proxy syndrome, a psychological disorder that often results in the medical abuse of another person.

For years, Dee Dee forced Gypsy to pretend she was disabled and chronically ill, confining her to a wheelchair and subjecting her to unnecessary medical procedures. She also accepted money and donations from charities and other organizations, despite her daughter's condition being entirely fabricated.

In 2015, Gypsy enlisted then-boyfriend Nicholas Godejohn to help murder her mother. That June, Dee Dee was found stabbed 17 times in her bed at their Springfield, Missouri home.

Gypsy plead guilty to second-degree murder in 2016, ultimately receiving a 10-year prison sentence. Godejohn was convicted of first-degree murder, and received life in prison.

Now, Gypsy is set to be released from prison on December 28, 2023.
