Gwyneth Paltrow's Workout Routine Is Surprisingly Relatable: 'A Little Something Every Day'

When it comes to health and wellness, Gwyneth Paltrow is best known for her popularization of some, shall we say, unique interests. After all, this is the woman who runs Goop, sells vagina-scented candles, took yoni eggs very mainstream, and once did MDMA with her husband (and talked about it on her Netflix show). To be clear, we’re not shaming Paltrow — to each their own when it comes to personal health, and by 2018 Goop was worth $250 million, per New York Magazine, so she’s clearly on to something. That said, many of Paltrow’s methods aren’t exactly accessible to us normal humans. So when the actress-entrepreneur opened up about her workout routine in a recent Instagram Stories Q&A, we weren’t expecting something so, well, relatable.

“I do something six days a week, but with a lot less intensity than I used to,” she said in response to a fan question about how many days a week she works out, per People. It sounds like walking is one of the Goop founder’s current top choices for a good workout. “Even just going for an hour walk, or like now, I’m walking around our giant Goop office. I usually take multiple spins around to stretch my legs,” she explained.

For Paltrow, it’s less about how hard she’s working out and more about fitting it into her schedule in a sustainable way. “I try to do something — a little something — everyday,” she explained. It’s a gentle and very welcome attitude that we think other working moms will love to hear.

Paltrow’s workout routine has evolved over time as the actress (now 51) has gotten older and wiser about her body. Previously, she opened up about being a fan of Tracy Anderson, a celebrity trainer who creates workouts that blend dance cardio, small, targeted movements, and light dumbbell work. In a 2021 Instagram Story, Paltrow said Anderson “has been keeping me healthy” for 15 years, but the workouts are “still really hard,” according to Women’s Health UK. Paltrow has also said she’s a fan of yoga, per Eat This, Not That!, noting that the practice “keeps me strong and balanced,” she wrote in a now-deleted Instagram post. “I started yoga when I was 25 years old, and it totally transformed my body and mind.”

While Paltrow’s actual workouts may have shifted over time, she’s stayed pretty consistent with their frequency. Back in 2011, she told Self that her fitness “secret” was doing “45 minutes of cardio five days a week,” along with “45 minutes of muscular structure work, which is toning, realigning and lengthening.” If Paltrow was preparing for a big event, she would up it to “two hours a day, six days a week for two weeks.”

These days, it sounds like walking is one of Paltrow’s workouts of choice, and we’re here for the accessibility — and the way she squeezes it in around (or at) work like the rest of us. It’s also worth appreciating her commitment to doing just “a little something every day,” because life gets busy and sometimes you just don’t have time for that full hour-long Pilates class. A walk around the block can feel like a breath of fresh air (literally) in those stressed-out moments, and knowing that Paltrow feels the same gives us a little more motivation to tie on our shoes and hit the pavement.
