Gwyneth Paltrow Recalls Her 'Difficult' Relationship With Stepkids

Gwyneth Paltrow is speaking out about the relationship she has with her two stepchildren, which she admits got off to a rocky start at first.
The Goop founder, who already has two children of her own, became a stepmom when she married husband Brad Falchuk in 2018, and now she's opening up about the experience of getting to know his two kids, Isabella, 19, and Brody, 17.
While Paltrow was speaking with fellow stepmother Nicole Avant during the Visionary Women's International Women's Day Summit on Wednesday, March 6, the 51-year-old actress was happy to be open and honest about the challenges that come with being a stepparent.
"It's a b—h, right, guys?" she first joked to the audience, before adding, "No, I actually, I really like to talk about this because it's one of my biggest learnings as a human being."
"My area of growth personally came from the initial difficult relationship I had with my stepkids," Paltrow candidly said during the summit, before adding, "and now they're like my kids," per PEOPLE.
In addition to her bonus babies, the Iron Man star also shares two children of her own with ex-husband Chris Martin: daughter Apple, 19, and son Moses, 17.
But even though the entire blended family gets along well now, Paltrow said, "the path to here was really rough."
Over time, however, she has learned, "It's almost like you have to embody the spirit of the sun and just give and not expect anything back," when it comes to being a stepparent.
"I just learned to try to just keep shining like the sun and never keeping score."
