Months after the Harvey Weinstein scandal first rocked Hollywood, Gwyneth Paltrow is addressing her own encounter with the disgraced producer, which she first disclosed in The New York Time’s Pulitzer Prize-winning exposé last fall.
During a candid conversation with Howard Stern, Paltrow opened up about the intricacies of her traumatic encounter with Weinstein in 1995, wherein he made a pass at the then-22-year-old actress in a hotel room.
“It was weird,” she said. “I was alone in a room with him. It was out of the blue. I was blind-sided.”
After the incident, Paltrow confided in her boyfriend at the time, Brad Pitt, who later confronted Weinstein at the opening of Hamlet on Broadway.
“It was like the equivalent of throwing him against the wall, energetically,” Paltrow said of Pitt's threat to the producer.
“He said, ‘If you ever make her feel uncomfortable again, I’ll kill you’—or something like that,” she recalled.
To this day, Paltrow says she's grateful to Pitt for his decision to step in. “I love him for this,” she gushed. “It was so fantastic. He leveraged his fame and power to protect me at a time when I didn’t have fame or power yet.”
