Gwen Stefani's Platinum Hair Stays So Healthy Thanks to This $5 Leave-In

The sun rises, the sky's blue, and Gwen Stefani's platinum blond. Barring the end of the world, some things never change. And given that Gwen's signature look is so entirely perfect—staying relevant from her baby bun days, to her retro phase, and her current classic glam iteration—we wouldn't have it any other way. That said, we have questions: chief among them upkeep and the exact level of devotion Gwen's platinum requires. Today, we got answers.

As anyone who's gone platinum (or thought about it) knows, the price of cool is threefold: time, money, and bleach-based pain. According to Gwen's longtime hairstylist, Danilo, the time factor is no joke: he told Refinery29 that Gwen gets a touch-up every single Monday before The Voice.

The good news is, Danilo says he found a way around the bleach blues. He came up with a "high lift formula" that reaches the blond they're aiming for without demolishing Gwen's hair in the process. Major intrigue—he describes his gamechanger as "a new product, as opposed to just bleach." Those were the only details he gave, other than, you know, the key to keeping Gwen's hair healthy. Coincidentally, that's the only intel that could distract us from journeying to his house, to knock on his door, to find out more about where and what this new product is.

Luckily, the key is much more accessible—Danilo says that leave-in conditioner is the secret to keeping your hair in good shape. "So many people are blow drying and using hot tools, which is where most of the damage happens—so I'm always telling people to learn how to work with leave-in conditioning at every stage of styling."

Danilo pointed to Pantene's Moisture Leave In Creme as a great option, which checks out—if Gwen reps the brand as a global ambassador, you know it's good. And at all of $4.97 at Walmart, it's all the better for helping us save for a visit to Danilo's salon.
