This Guy Did 57 Two-Finger Pushups in 1 Minute and Set a World Record

From Men's Health

Quick, how many two-finger pushups can you do? If your response is more than zero, kudos; if it’s less than 57, keep practicing. That’s the world record held by Armenia’s Hrachik Kostandyan. Oh, and the record’s actually for 57 two-finger push-ups in a minute, which means he averaged nearly one push-up every second.

He set that record last June in front of cameras and a small audience in a gym in the Armenian capital of Yerevan. Guinness World Records has posted a video so you can see Kostandyan’s phalanges-busting accomplishment as it happened.

There’s very little info available about Kostandyan, but in the video he’s dressed in martial arts gear. He gets into position and the timer starts to count.

Here we should point out that Kostandyan is chasing the record for two-finger pushups with two arms. Which breaks down into, you know, one finger per arm; Kostandyan’s perched on his two index fingers, which are pointed slightly inward and somehow supporting his body. These aren’t the one-arm, two-fingers push-ups you may have seen martial arts master Bruce Lee do; that’s a whole separate category, with a different world record holder. (There are also related records for two-finger, two arm push-ups while carrying a 40 pound backpack, or four-finger, two-arm push-ups. So if you’re scouting for a record to break, cast your net wide.)

Kostandyan rips through the early push-ups with admirably honest form, even as he’s clearly exerting himself, his face getting redder. About 40 second he takes a break and you think he might be done, but he jumps right back in, closing out the minute and the record. He gets a brief scattering of applause from his small audience, then the video’s done. But if you’re looking for some inspiration today to do your best no matter the task, take a couple minutes to watch Kostandyan power his way through to this obscure record.
