Driven to desperation by the last two years, where like everyone else he was stuck in his own home and unable to go on vacation, YouTuber and former Australian Ninja Warrior champion Ben Polson decided to take matters into his own hands. He set out to construct his very own retreat from the world where he could relax on the notoriously lethal, shark-infested waters of the Brisbane River. And because he's used to taking things to extremes, Polson also wants his buoyant sanctuary to function as a place where he can get in a workout.

Polson explains that in addition to having enough space to do pushups and squats, he designed the floating workout space with a full pullup bar as well. "This will allow me to work out every muscle in my entire body," he says, "all while floating on this incredibly dangerous river."

He starts out with a couple of inflatable paddle boards to form the base of the structure. Then, he replicates the design of his metal pullup frame, using a more lightweight material that won't end up sinking: wood. He also sources a motor to propel his DIY boat out from the shore, and has to make sure that anything he adds to the paddle boards, including his own bodyweight, falls under their maximum weight limit of 120 kgs each (around 265 pounds).

Once his new pullup structure is complete, Polson takes it all down to the river for assembly, attaching the bar and the motor to the boards. "This is fucking terrifying," he says as he steps on board. "This could go very wrong very quickly."

Polson soon realizes that the motor he attached to the paddle boards is no match for the current of the river, and he is forced to abort. "This has been a very, very stressful holiday," he says.
