During Collider's 10th anniversary IMAX screening of Pacific Rim, Guillermo del Toro revealed that Christoph Waltz will be joining Andrew Garfield, Mia Goth and Oscar Isaac in his long-anticipated Frankenstein.

del Toro also let slip that cameras are set to start rolling in February, saying, "It's a movie I have been wanting to do for 50 years since I saw the first Frankenstein. I had an epiphany, and it's basically a movie that required a lot of growth and a lot of tools that I couldn't have done 10 years ago. Now I'm brave or crazy enough ... and we're gonna tackle it."

Waltz voiced Count Volpe in del Toro's Oscar-winning stop-motion Pinnochio, which hit Netflix in late 2022.

Fans familiar with del Toro's work say this is the perfect project for him, given his experience telling "monster" stories in films such as Pan's Labyrinth and The Shape of Water. He has a unique way of generating audience empathy through other-worldly beings who teach us about ourselves and what it means to be human.
