Gucci's New Beauty Dare: Go Girlie or Go Goth!
This evening's Gucci Resort 2019 fashion show in Arles, France sparked a fever for glossy black lips and brushed waves alike.

Unsurprisingly, this evening's Gucci Resort 2019 presentation at Les Alyscamps in Arles, France featured a checklist of wholly idiosyncratic beauty looks which, at first glance, were defined by their individuality rather than one cool girl uniform moment. But while the parade of models were indeed varied, designer Alessandro Michele's tribe of soulful beauties seemed to favor two distinctive aesthetics: girlie or goth.

Representing the former camp, models walked the runway with a barrage of tight barrel curls worked into Marie Antoinette-esque poufs and marcel-meets-art-school coils that were sometimes softened by bangs or brushed to romantically frizzy perfection. Girlish, too, were the thoughtful touches of pink, echoed in the collection and found in glossed pouts and three-dimensional overlays of pastel eye adornments—as well as the warming runway lighting that cast hair in a faint pastel glow.

Standing in sharp contrast, precisely drawn jet-black lips—run through with glitter—stole hearts in their own right, the subversive notes playing off the collection's veils and headpieces (and one slightly chilling prosthetic mask) and delivering a dark romance all their own that was echoed in lashings of onyx eye liner.

So, will you be a Gucci girly girl or a Gucci goth come next season? Why choose. Devotees of the fashion house's sensational brand of charisma know they can be both.
