Fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe are already used to saying goodbye, but that doesn't mean that our favorite heroes are going to be gone forever. In fact, if you're a big fan of the Guardians of the Galaxy, then you actually have some exciting things to look forward to in the future. But before we get to that, we obviously have to talk about Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 which not only brings our favorite team of misfits back together for one last ride, it also serves as the official goodbye to James Gunn and even some characters like Drax and Gamora.

So what does this mean for the future of the GOTG? And what is happening with the team now that it's moving to a new era? Well those iconic post-credit scenes gave us some hints as to what to expect next.

Here’s everything you need to know about the end-credit scenes in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

Are there any end-credit scenes in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3? How many?

Would it be a Marvel movie without any post-credit scenes? Absolutely not! And luckily for us, James Gunn followed tradition as he wrapped up his final film with the GOTG. For fans who were already hoping for some answers after the movie ended, there is both a mid-credits scene and a post-credits scene. So yes, you're definitely going to want to stay in your seat all the way until the very end.

Oops, I totally missed them. What happens in the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 end-credit scenes?

As you probably already know, the end-credit scenes include major spoilers about what went down in the film and what will happen in the future. So this is your warning that there are Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 spoilers below. Don’t say we didn’t warn you!

Now that the old GOTG has disbanded for the time being, there's a new group of heroes that are taking up the mantle. Now led by Rocket, Groot, Cosmo, Kraglin, Adam, one of the young girls from The High Evolutionary's ship, Phyla, and Blurp are all on a new mission together. While they're waiting for their enemies to appear, they each go around and share their favorite musical artist while the citizens of the planet are all freaking out behind them. As they suddenly appear, the new team gathers together to prepare to fight as the brand-new GOTG.

The second scene takes place at the very end of the credits where we see Peter Quill back home with his grandfather eating cereal. His granddad is reading a newsspaper that mentions Kevin Bacon being taken by aliens, which is a nice nod to The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special. The scene soon ends and the screen points out that Star-Lord will return.

What does this mean for the future of the MCU?

Well it means that while the original iteration of the Guardians might be gone, there's a new team who is out to protect the galaxy. Whether Quill will join them again remains to be seen, but at least we know that his story isn't over yet.

However, for some characters, this might be the end. Dave Bautista and Zoe Saldana have said that they're done playing Drax and Gamora after this film. Whether this means their characters will be recast remains to be seen, but considering the fact that James Gunn doesn't have plans for another Guardians of the Galaxy movie, there's a good chance that this is the last time they're on our screens. Or maybe they'll make small appearances in the future.

One thing is for sure, some of the characters are just getting started and we're going to wait a bit to find out more about their new journeys.
