Group looking to expand Meals on Wheels in Foley and beyond

FOLEY, Ala. (WKRG) — Members of a faith-based charity in Baldwin County are trying to expand their program to bring meals to senior citizens. They’re asking more people to be a part of Ecumenical Ministries in central Baldwin County,

Meals on Wheels ships dozens of meals to seniors and homebound people every weekday–but they need more people behind the wheel to expand their reach. I stopped by this week as they were sorting meals for their daily trips to homes in Foley, Elberta, Magnolia Springs and Bon Secour.

Last month they delivered nearly 1000 meals to seniors across central Baldwin County. As the county grows, the need for services like these grows and they’re looking for anyone, especially drivers to help, on daily deliveries.

“Those people may not have any other family in this area or anyone to help them. They’re having a hard time getting to the grocery store or cooking meals for themselves. And this is a way to ensure that that need is met,” said South Baldwin Director Ecumenical Ministries Margaret Calhoun.

In order to raise their profile and bring more people in they’re holding bake sales at South Baldwin Regional Medical Center. One will be this Friday morning at 8:30 and another will be on May 10th.
