'Grey's Anatomy' Stars Eric Dane & Patrick Dempsey Show "How to Hang out Six Feet Apart" in New Instagram

On Wednesday, former Grey's Anatomy star Eric Dane—who played Dr. Mark Sloan (a.k.a. "McSteamy") for six seasons on the medical drama—took to Instagram to share an epic photo of him together with fellow actor Patrick Dempsey, who played Dr. Derek Shepherd (dubbed "McDreamy") on the show. The former co-stars are pictured standing on a hill, with Patrick standing six feet behind Eric—a perfect example of proper social distancing amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, as the 47-year-old actor made sure to point out in his caption. "Blurry pic of how to hang out 6 feet apart," he wrote.

Though unclear as to whether the photo is a brand new snapshot—which, yes, would mean that the pair had a reunion during quarantine!—or is actually an old throwback pic from behind the scenes of the Grey's set, fans naturally couldn't help but to go into a frenzy over the sweet photo, which brought back quite a few old memories of the two beloved characters—both of whom have been killed off in the show.

"HOW DO YOU EXPECT THAT I GET OVER YOU GUYS IF YOU DO THIS," one fan wrote, replying to the star's post on Twitter. "I’m [sic] feel attacked," another fan Tweeted, alongside a GIF of the two characters crying in an old Grey's scene.

Another Grey's viewer chimed in, writing, "Ugh! Right in the feels! @GreysABC isn’t the same without you two!"

Of course, fan excitement is understandable given that it's been years since they saw the two actors together on screen! Eric left the show in 2012 after six seasons of playing the hunky "McSteamy," with his character unfortunately dying at the beginning of Season 9 as a result of the complications he suffered from a plane crash. It wasn't long until Patrick Dempsey's Dr. Derek Shepherd exited the show after him, with the fan-favorite character dying in a tragic car accident in Season 11.

“I am extremely grateful to everyone at Grey‘s, ABC and Shondaland for the experience and memories I have had over the course of this run,” Eric told TVLine in 2012. “It has been wonderful to work alongside and learn from a creative force such as Shonda Rhimes.”

Well, while we're still mourning the losses of McDreamy and McSteamy, it looks like we have this adorable photo of the two "McBrothers"—and their stellar example of social distancing—in case we ever need a sweet dose of Grey's nostalgia.
