The actress recounted her devastating loss in a heartbreaking new post.

Grey's Anatomy actress Caterina Scorsone and her family are physically and emotionally rebuilding after a fire completely destroyed their home.

Scorsone shared a photo of what remains of her house in the aftermath on Instagram, recounting the scary experience in the caption.

The mother of three began, "Hello friends ❤️ (cw: fire/loss) A couple of months ago, my house burned down. While getting my kids ready for bed and finishing bath time, smoke began to seep up through the grout around the tub. When I looked down the hallway, a river of thick black smoke had already formed and was filling the house."

She went on, "One thing about fires: they happen fast. I had about two minutes to get my three kids out of the house, and we escaped with less than shoes on our feet. But we got out. And for that, I am eternally grateful."

Scorsone, 41, sadly said that while she and her kids got out safely, their four pets did not, and they lost them in the fire. She shared pictures of their dear animals in the post as well.

She wrote about the devastating loss, "We are still sitting with that loss, but we are lucky we got to love them at all."

The actress then explained why she decided to share the news online, "This is not a post about a fire. This is a post about community. This is a love letter to the incredible people that showed up and the incredible ways that they did."

She highlighted the firefighters, investigators, neighbors, parents at her kids' school, her sister, and even the Grey's Anatomy team and Shondaland for everything they did to help.

"What we learned is that the only thing that matters are the people (and beings) that you love," said Scorsone. "The only thing that matters is community. We would not be here without it, and we are so grateful. Thank you."

Scorsone's Grey's Anatomy co-star, Chris Carmack, commented, "I hope I never have to deal with anything like this… but if I do, I hope I can follow your example of grace under terrible circumstances…❤️❤️❤️ love to you and the family."

Another star of the TV show, Jake Borelli, added, "You are truly an incredible human and I am sending all the love I have to you and yours ✨💛✨."

Scorsone plays Dr. Amelia Shepherd on the hit ABC medical drama–a role she's had for the last 13 years. She is also the mother of three young daughters, Eliza, 10, Paloma, 6, and Arwen, 3.
