Ellen Pompeo says we haven't seen the last of her even as the show resets itself for a new beginning.

The “I’ll Follow the Sun” episode of Grey’s Anatomy has been touted as Meredith Grey’s (Ellen Pompeo) swan song at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital, but it turns out that it may only be her final episode as a series regular, and that she may pop back for an occasional episode.

“For the record, it’s not really my final show," she told ET. “It’s a little bit of a trick they’re playing on people.”

That said, she added, "It is my final episode for a while."

Which is great to hear because the episode left a big issue hanging. With Meredith’s move to Boston to do research on a cure for Alzheimer’s Disease, what happens with her relationship with Nick Marsh (Scott Speedman)? Does he follow her to Boston or stay in Seattle, where he moved only to be with her.

Nick is upset in the episode because Meredith made the decision to move to Boston without consulting him, and Meredith explains that when she said “I love you” to him, he didn’t say it back, so she felt it was OK to make the decision on her own. But Nick isn’t taking the responsibility for what looks like their breakup and walks out on her.

But later, as Nick is about to drown his sorrows, a conversation with Taryn Helm (Jaicy Elliott) changes his mind when she points out that Meredith fell in love with him, but he’s at the bar with her, so “How stupid are you?”

Nick doesn’t make it to the airport in time, so he phones Meredith, and says, “I love you. I fell in love with you the first day I met you. I fell in love with you the second day I met you. I have loved you every minute of every day that I have known you.”

When she doesn’t respond, he says, “Meredith…”

Meredith finally says, “I can’t quite hear you. We’re about to take off, so I will call you when we get settled.”

So, what’s that about? It was very confusing. She wanted him to declare himself, and when he finally does, she puts him off. Hopefully, her return later this season for the finale will bring some closure to that story.

But then, in what is a very smart move Grey’s creates the potential for starting the series all over again, but with a new set of interns when Mika Yasuda (Midori Francis), Simone Griffith (Alexis Floyd), and Lucas Adams (Niko Terho) all show up at Meredith’s house with keys because they’ve been told they can live there if they don’t mind the hole in the roof caused by the fire.

It’s kind of déjà vu back to season one with the bonds formed between Meredith, Cristina Yang (Sandra Oh), Izzie Stevens (Katherine Heigl) and George O’Malley (T.R. Knight) made Grey's the watercooler show of its time.

Does this mean that ABC will pick Grey's up for Season 20? Hopefully, we'll get an answer before the upfronts in May.

Grey’s Anatomy airs Thursday nights at 9 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.
