'Grey’s Anatomy' Fans Are Stunned by Kate Walsh and Ellen Pompeo’s Instagram Exchange

Page cardio! Grey's Anatomy fans are going to need help slowing down their heart rates after seeing what Kate Walsh said to Ellen Pompeo on Instagram recently.

It all started last week when Kate, who once played Dr. Addison Montgomery-Shepherd on the hit medical drama, reposted a silly video from the Instagram account @Butta.Bella. In the clip, a dog appears to doze off with its mouth wrapped around the head of a sleeping cat. "Looks like they came to an understanding 😹 #SleepingWithTheEnemy 🐾," Kate captioned the delightfully weird post.

When Ellen saw the post, she immediately wrote in the comments section: "OMG this is crazy!" But what was really crazy was the way Kate responded to Ellen shortly after (which you can see here in the eighth slide of the Instagram carousel).

"@ellenpompeo Do u think she was sleeping with her husband?! 😂," Kate hilariously wrote back. Of course, what makes this comment so juicy is the fact that Ellen's Grey's character, Meredith, slept with and fell in love with Kate's character's husband, Dr. Derek Shepherd (played by Patrick Dempsey), on the show.

Although Kate later watered down her comment to "@ellenpompeo 😂❤️🙌," fans and the Instagram account Comments by Celebs already noticed Kate's hilarious quip. In response, Grey's fans had lots to say. "@katewalsh U DID NOT," one fan wrote. "@katewalsh 😂😂😂😂 shots fired," another noted.

But wait, that's not all. What made the whole ordeal even more epic is that Patrick Dempsey himself, a.k.a. "McDreamy," also joined the Instagram comments section party by writing, "😂😂😂." Though he added the emojis in the general comments section of the post, it's unclear whether the actor was chuckling more at the dog and cat ... or Kate's now-deleted comment.

To be crystal clear, Kate and Ellen have no real-life beef with one another. In fact, the two have joked about their characters' love triangle with McDreamy before on social media. In May of 2020, Kate commemorated the 15-year anniversary of her debut on Grey's Anatomy with a clip of Addison confronting Derek and Meredith.

"Unreal that today marks 15 years ago to the day since this little lady walked on to your screen and checked ya for screwing her husband," Kate wrote while tagging Ellen. Hilariously, Ellen tweeted back at her former costar, "@katewalsh thank god I messed with your hubby!! it worked out well for us both!!! Love you so much and THAT scene ...when your character showed up ... was such a defining moment for this show. From that point on we had them hooked!!!"

Though Kate no longer appears regularly on Grey's, we sure enjoy seeing her and Ellen get into it on social media from time to time.
