Sarah Drew as April Kepner on 'Grey's Anatomy.'

It looks like we haven't seen the last of April Kepner on Grey's Anatomy, at least if it were up to Sarah Drew, the actress who played her for nine seasons.

Drew spoke to Extra's Megan Ryte at the Elton John AIDS Foundation's 32nd Annual Academy Awards Viewing Party on Sunday and revealed she's always happy to return to her Grey's "family."

"I've been back twice since I left, and both times were super special and super amazing…I love jumping back into my family over there, but I’m also very busy doing lots of other really fun things."

Drew was originally written out of the series at the end of Season 14. Fans did not see the character for more three seasons, although April and Jackson (Jesse Williams) shared custody of their daughter, Harriet, off-screen.

"I was so devastated when that time ended for me," Drew admitted to Extra, "but then these last five, six years now, I’ve kind of grown as an artist in some pretty amazing ways."

Drew returned to the show for Williams' farewell episode in Season 17. She also returned the following year when April and Jackson made a surprise visit back to Grey Sloan and confirmed that they had reconciled their romantic relationship.

Both characters live in Boston now and work at the Catherine Fox Foundation. So it wouldn't be hard to find an excuse for April to return to the show, considering that Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) is now also in Boston working on a cure for Alzheimer's disease.

Many fan-favorite characters, including Addison (Kate Walsh), have been returning to the series in recent seasons. Season 18 even featured guest appearances from deceased characters like Derek (Patrick Dempsey), George (T.R. Knight) and Lexie (Chyler Leigh), as Meredith battled Covid.

Jessica Capshaw, who was written out with Drew at the end of Season 17, will also make her first return to the series in the upcoming Season 20. If Drew is willing to return, it seems like Grey's just needs to find the right storyline to make it happen.

Grey's Anatomy returns for Season 20 on Thursday, March 14 at 9 p.m. ET on ABC.
