Greta Thunberg Claps Back at Andrew Tate on Twitter After He's Detained in Romania

Tate was detained by authorities shortly after his spat with the climate activist.

Climate activist Greta Thunberg didn’t miss an opportunity to troll internet personality Andrew Tate.

Following his recent arrest in Romania, Thunberg tweeted: “This is what happens when you don’t recycle your pizza boxes.”

It may seem like a random response if you haven’t been following the back-and-forth between the two, however, she seemed to allude to a popular online theory that the aforementioned pizza box is what led to Tate’s arrest in the first place, though it’s possible the timing was just a coincidence.

Tate and his brother, Tristan, were reportedly detained in connection with human trafficking, rape and forming an organized crime group, officials confirmed to multiple news outlets, including People.

In a video obtained by Romanian outlets that has been circulating on Twitter, the 36-year-old influencer and his brother were arrested by police in full tactical gear.

According to a press release from the Directorate for Investigating Organized Crime and Terrorism, four suspects will be detained for 24 hours following the raid of five homes. The suspects were not identified by name, but Eugen Vidineac, a lawyer for Tate, confirmed it to Sky News, noting that the others detained were his brother and two Romanian suspects, one of whom may be a former policewoman, per Romanian daily newspaper Gândul.

Vidineac also emphasized to CNN that they were detained and not under arrest. The brothers are expected to appear in court on Friday.

The suspects are accused of holding two women—an American citizen and a Romanian one—against their will in Tate’s villa.

The brothers were originally questioned back in April before being released after five hours, per the New York Post. This time, police also recovered weapons such as several firearms, a knuckle duster, swords, and a hatchet at the residence.

Earlier this week, Tate made headlines when he pointedly tagged the 19-year-old UN ambassador in a post to brag about his 33 cars and requested that she provide her email address so he can “send a complete list of my car collection and their respective enormous emissions."

Thunberg responded, “Yes, please do enlighten me. email me at smalld–@getalife.com,” which seemingly struck a chord with Tate and prompted him to respond with a video that many believe inadvertently sealed his fate.

In the video response, Tate asks someone off-camera to bring him a pizza box in an attempt to emphasize that he will personally “make sure that these boxes are not recycled.” The kickboxer is then handed boxes from Jerry’s pizza, a local chain in Romania.

Many on social media—where the story has been trending for over 24 hours—called the arrest a swift delivery of karma.
