As Lady Bird lines up for Sunday's Oscars with five nominations, creator Greta Gerwig has revealed that she would like to make a quartet of films set in her hometown of Sacramento, California.

Speaking to the A24 podcast, she revealed that she was inspired by author Elena Ferrante's love-letter to Naples: "I would like to do a quartet of Sacramento films. [Elena] wrote these four books that took place mainly in Naples. They’re so great and I thought, 'Oh, I’d like to do that.'"

Lady Bird explored one area of the California state capital, but Gerwig said "there’s still lots of different parts of Sacramento that I’d like to explore, too. I feel like I have the privilege of being from a place, and I’m really from that place. My family’s still there, and my friends are still there. I feel like I can actually speak to it with some feeling."

The initial film has already inspired fans to make pilgrimages to the city, and a bar featured in the film now serves up a signature Lady Bird cocktail, so it seems there would be a warm local welcome for this cinematic micro-universe.
