Greta Gerwig is set to write and direct two Chronicles of Narnia films, and fans may not have to wait that long to see her vision come to life.

Collider reported that the Head of Netflix Film, Scott Stuber, told them that "people know that we're aspirationally trying to get Greta Gerwig's Narnia together and get that movie, which will be next year".

We are knocking on the door of 2024, and so if all goes to Stuber's plan, then we could see the cameras start rolling on Gerwig's Narnia in the new year.

There hasn't been much revealed about what the new adaptation will hold. Gerwig admitted to Total Film in the summer that she is "properly scared of it" but said that fear "feels like a good place to start".

The WGA were on strike from May this year until the end of September, so projects have largely been held back from progressing.

SAG-AFTRA also remains on strike as they negotiate on the issue of AI with the AMPTP, so it's unlikely we'll hear any Narnia casting announcements in the near future.

Netflix is also having fun dipping into the IP waters, most recently releasing four new short films from Wes Anderson adapted from Roald Dahl's short stories.
