Greta Gerwig Embraces Soft Curves and Ultra Feminine Silhouettes for Cannes Film Festival

Greta Gerwig arrived at the Cannes Film Festival on Monday in a contemporary look and fashioned an ultra-feminine frock during her jury’s photo call on Tuesday.
For her Monday arrival look, Gerwig fashioned a piece from the Carven fall 2024 ready-to-wear collection. The sleeveless, camel-toned frock featured soft curves and a gentle fold on the bodice of the dress. The skirt was cut in an A-line style with a hem just above Gerwig’s ankles.

The “Lady Bird” director completed her look with a pair of heels courtesy of Amina Muaddi and carried a coordinated white Chanel handbag. As for her accessories, Gerwig topped off the contemporary ensemble with a pair of black Chanel sunglasses.
While posing for photos with members of her jury on Tuesday, Gerwig fashioned a feminine dress courtesy of Maison Margiela. The look featured sky blue and white hues in a striped pattern with thick straps and a corset-style bodice.
Gerwig’s pixie cut blond hair was styled by John D, with soft makeup, featuring a pop of a pink lip, by Jenn Streicher. The director and writer’s entire ensemble was curated by stylist Karla Welch, whose A-list clients include Olivia Wilde, Kristen Wiig and “Barbie” star America Ferrera.
Gerwig’s dress of choice comes courtesy of Carven’s fall 2024 ready-to-wear collection. The collection made its debut during Paris Fashion Week last March, featuring designs by Carven’s creative director Louise Trotter. Trotter said she had “a woman who dresses for herself” in mind when creating the designs, as noted in WWD’s review of the collection.
Along with draped elements and soft curves, Carven’s fall 2024 ready-to-wear collection featured scooped vests, sculptural skirts and unique accessories like padded ballet flats. Trotter also emphasized that her designs had comfort front-of-mind. “How you feel in the clothes is very important to me,” she said. “I always ask the models: ‘How do you feel in that? Do you feel good in that?’”
Gerwig will serve as the jury president of the film festival alongside jurors Lily Gladstone, Eva Green and more.
The 2024 Cannes Film Festival will run from May 14 to May 25. Over the course of the festival, films like Francis Ford Coppola’s “Megalopolis,” Paul Schrader’s “Oh, Canada” and Yorgos Lanthimos’ “Kinds of Kindness” will screen in competition. Jury President Greta Gerwig will serve alongside her jury to select award winners among the slate of films.
