Great Outfits in Fashion History: Rihanna at the 2006 Jingle Ball

A reminder that Rihanna is a fashion icon for a reason.

There are perfectly good celebrity style moments, and then there are the looks that really stick with you, the ones you try desperately to recreate at home. In 'Great Outfits in Fashion History,' Fashionista editors are revisiting their all-time favorite lewks.

To become an "It" girl is no easy feat. To maintain "It" girl status decades later is downright extraordinary.

Few celebrities are able to claim such an accomplishment, hence Rihanna's solidified icon status. There are so many great Rihanna fashion moments in the archives that it's genuinely impossible to list them all. That said, you have to start somewhere, and her fur-trimmed coat at the 2006 Jingle Ball is certainly worth looking back on.

Before taking the stage to perform hit songs "SOS," "Unfaithful," "Break It Off" and "Pon de Replay," Rihanna showed up on the carpet in a black fur-trimmed coat and peep-toe heels, her hair in an edgy bob cut. Her glam consisted of silver eyeshadow, thick black eyeliner, rosy red blush and a nude lip. (Later on in the evening, Rihanna revealed her outfit underneath: a black halter bodysuit and silver sequined mini-shorts.) This look has unashamedly lived in my head free-of-charge ever since.
