Great Outfits in Fashion History: Nicki Minaj's Golden New Year's Eve Bandage Dress

There are perfectly good celebrity style moments, and then there are the looks that really stick with you, the ones you try desperately to recreate at home. In 'Great Outfits in Fashion History,' Fashionista editors are revisiting their all-time favorite lewks.

Just because the New Year festivities have come to an end doesn't mean we have to stop reflecting on great party outfits of years past. With the recent release of "Pink Friday 2" and the slow-but-sure return of the bandage dress, it feels only right to look back on Nicki Minaj's golden Hervé Léger by Max Azria look from New Year's Eve 2012.

Still riding the high of the original "Pink Friday" album and in anticipation of the then-forthcoming "Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded," Minaj wore a shimmering body-con dress to ring in what would become an iconic year for the rapper. (She won four Grammy awards that February.) They may be divisive, but when done right, bandage dresses can make for some glamorous red carpet moments — this brushed gold design included.

Even with its figure-hugging shape and fully metallic sheen, this is one of Minaj's more subdued looks, the star having made herself known for the multicolored, whimsical looks she wore the year before. Even without a duo-tone hairstyle or rainbow tutu, the "Super Bass" rapper still made a splash with platinum blonde curls, smokey gold eyeshadow and her then-signature neon pink lip. For accessories, Minaj wore fully bedazzled Christian Louboutin platform stilettos, plus Versace jewelry (a multi-chain charm necklace, a matching charm bracelet and a wide engraved bangle).
