There are perfectly good celebrity style moments, and then there are the looks that really stick with you, the ones you try desperately to recreate at home. In 'Great Outfits in Fashion History,' Fashionista editors are revisiting their all-time favorite lewks.

Natalie Portman has been a household name ever since she was 13. In addition to starring in films that range from "The Professional" to the "Star Wars" pre-quels to "Black Swan", the actor has been something of an "it" girl in fashion circles.

From the late '90s to the late '00s, especially, Portman was known for rocking looks that ranged from geek-chic to edgy. This was the case at the premiere of "Everyone Says I Love You" in 1997, when she stepped out in an artsy avant-garde ensemble by Jean Paul Gaultier: The multicolored mesh dress from the brand's Fall 1996 collection features graphic portrait prints and trompe l'oeil motifs with notes of punk and grunge, in a muted palette of blues, browns and yellows.

To ground the eye-catching look, Portman carried a simple beaded black purse and wore a pair of platform black sandals. She slicked her hair back in a low ponytail, with a singular tress playfully framing her face.

Gaultier's mesh pieces have stood the test of time, and are still seen on celebrities like the Kardashian-Jenners and Ice Spice. Shop the JPG-inspired look, below.
