Great Outfits in Fashion History: Audrey Hepburn's 1988 Red Feathered Givenchy Dress

Audrey Hepburn and Givenchy were a match made in fashion heaven, creating a slew of iconic fashion moments from the breathtaking ball gown in "Sabrina" to the utterly iconic LBD from "Breakfast at Tiffany's." As Hubert de Givenchy's longtime muse, Hepburn supported the designer as he won California's Lifetime Achievement Award in 1988 while wearing one of his creations: a bright red feathered dress.

It was the '80s — big silhouettes were very much on-trend and this statement feathered look commanded attention in all the right ways. Hepburn always stood out as the best-dressed woman in any room, and although this over-the-top feather extravaganza was bolder than her signature sleek looks, it still captured her elegance and impeccable star power.

The floor-length dress featured a feathered top with a sequined bodice defining the wearer's waist, but the matching feather boa really places this look in the Hepburn x Givenchy hall of fame. This off-screen moment ranks right up there with Hepburn's many silver-screen serves.

Hepburn paired the dress with gold diamond-shaped earrings and a red clutch. Her hair was neatly pinned back, likely to ensure that the feathers didn't ruffle her hair, and her makeup consisted of slightly smoked-out eyeliner and a soft pink lip.
