Great Outfits in Fashion History: Angela Bassett in Y2K Corporate Baddie-Approved Suiting

There are perfectly good celebrity style moments, and then there are the looks that really stick with you, the ones you try desperately to recreate at home. In 'Great Outfits in Fashion History,' Fashionista editors are revisiting their all-time favorite lewks.
While doing a deep dive into Angela Bassett's best '90s and early-2000s fashion moments (all in a day's work), I was struck by one clear fact: Bassett knew how to wear the hell out of a suit. No matter the cut, color or print, she routinely wore the menswear staple with such ease I couldn't help but be inspired.
One of her most memorable suiting moments occurred in 2001, at the premiere of "The Score," a crime drama starring Bassett, Robert De Niro and Marlon Brando. In lieu of the traditional gowns we now expect to see on red carpets, she wore a light brown pinstripe suit.
In addition to the blazer's boxy fit, exaggerated length and double collar, the shirt's bright-white collar and peekaboo cuffs also helped the look stand out. Bassett found a silver sequined shoulder bag and white open-toe heels to complement the ensemble.
With her hair curled in tight coils, Bassett also went monochromatic with her makeup, wearing a quintessential early-2000s brownie-glazed lip.
