Nick Offerman as Beef Tobin

Offerman loves the heart behind The Great North. “We’re arriving at this point where you can fuel your stories with empathy and inspiring humanism, [and] it’s still funny,” he told Deadline. “We still talk about butts and farting and have a great time, as we should with a cartoon family. But I love the way that it’s forward thinking, and I love to be a part of that.”

Jenny Slate as Judy Tobin

Slate echoed Offerman's sentiments about the sweetness and silliness of The Great North, explaining, “The script was so funny, in this specific style that Bob’s and Wendy and Lizzie [Molyneux] and Loren [Bouchard] all have. which is that it’s super-duper sweet. It’s a kind show, and the comedy is just so, so strong.”

Will Forte as Wolf Tobin

Co-creator Lizzie Molyneux described Wolf Tobin, Beef's eldest son voiced by Will Forte, as a "golden retriever" type of character. Wendy Molyneux explained to Mashable, "There's a common thing in pilots and new shows of someone who's a bit of an outsider, who can be the audience's POV. And so when we realized we wanted to work with Will and develop Wolf around [Will Forte], we thought, 'Well, Wolf could be getting married to someone he met on the internet who is not from Alaska and that can give the viewers a way in.'"

Paul Rust as Ham Tobin

Lizzie Molyneux explained Ham Tobin's name simply: "An adjacent meat to Beef." It does sound better than, say, venison, pork, chicken, turkey, veal...

Aparna Nancherla as Moon Tobin

Nancherla's reading for Moon Tobin changed the direction of the character for The Great North's creators.

"When we first conceived of the character, it was more of a chaotic energy, more of a total wild man," Wendy told Mashable. "Then, when we heard Aparna's voice and looked at the Moon drawing—Aparna has a sort of natural gravity to her voice and that very measured pace and seriousness—and suddenly, we were like, 'Oh wow, Moon is very different than we were thinking.'"

Lizzie added, "So we actually play him as more of an adult sometimes. But I think with the character of Moon and also with Louise [from Bob's Burgers], it's about finding those moments within episodes, especially episodes that center around them, where you want to gently remind the audience that they're still a little kid. So Moon can handle tracking an animal and being off on his own and he drinks coffee and he pictures himself as this worldly adult. But then he still wants to make sure that he's there when his dad comes to tuck him in at night."

Dulcé Sloan as Honeybee Shaw

Sloan was thrilled to voice a character that sounded realistic to her.

“When I was looking at the writing for the audition, it was like, ‘Oh, ok. [Honeybee] speaks how I would speak,'” she told Deadline. “A lot of times when you see Black characters, you can tell that they’re written by someone who’s never spoken to a Black person before … So, I was really excited about [the character] because she felt like a real person—like if this was live-action, I could actually play her.”

We expect notable recurring characters will be featured this season as well, including Ron Funches as Jerry Shaw, Megan Mullally as Alyson Lefebvrere, and Alanis Morissette as herself. In addition, The Great North always features a smattering of some of the best comedians in the business in guest star roles and you can expect no less this season!
