'The Great British Bake Off' Is Finally BackChannel 4

The Great British Bake Off's highly-anticipated 14th season premiere has finally made its way to Netflix. The beloved baking competition, called The Great British Baking Show in the U.S., first aired across the pond earlier this week. They kicked things off with an eager new cast and fan-favorite challenge: cake week.

While we still have an entire season left to binge, episode one had all the things we love about GBBO: funny skits, sexual innuendo, and sugar—lots and lots of sugar. Here's everything that went down during the premiere of Great British Bake Off.

The contestants kicked things off with cake week

The show's new crew of bakers began their GBBO journey with cake week, where they were tasked with the signature bake, technical challenge, and the showstopper. Nicky, Tasha, Abbi, Cristy, Josh, Amos, Rowan, Matty, Keith, Saku, Dana, *takes deep breath* and Dan started off with vertical rolled sponge cakes.

For round two, Paul Hollywood requested the "most iconic Bake Off cake" from the show's opening titles—which left the contestants rather conflicted over whether or not to include the missing raspberry. Ultimately, Dan came out on top while Amos followed shortly behind in second.

The third and final challenge of cake week was the showstopper. The bakers were required to create an elaborate cake that looked like an animal, and let's just say it caused some...commentary.

Why is everyone talking about the showstopper challenge?

While contestants were given several baking prompts for the week, none were quite as entertaining (and on brand, for that matter) as when they were tasked to create the animal-shaped cake. Or, more specifically, when former flight attendant Nicky decided to bake a beaver, which instantly sent Paul Hollywood into a fit of laughter.

When asked about her decision to create the cake, which she named Norman, Nicky admitted that she "dressed up once as a beaver." While the innuendo sent giggles throughout the room, judge Prue Leith kept her cool, casually noting that she doesn't even "know what a beaver looks like."

However, even Leith wasn't able to keep her composure for long. "Tell us about your beaver," she asked, before erupting into a fit of laugher herself. Fellow judges, hosts, and contestants simultaneously lost it.

"Her beaver looked amazing but it was bone dry," Hollywood later added. "I don’t like dry beavers, do you?" new host Alison Hammond chimed in, while nudging Noel Fielding.

Naturally, fans joined in on the joke online, writing, "'let's talk about your beaver' might honestly be my fave innuendo I've heard on Great British Bake Off." Another Twitter user chimed in, adding, "Bake Off is so wholesome until Prue Leith makes a beaver joke."

Fans are obsessed with new co-host Alison Hammond

Though the innuendos are hardly a new for the series, what did come as a surprise was Alison Hammond's seamless transition to hosting. Not only did Fielding's co-host join right in on the beaver jokes (and also break out into hysterics over the word "moist") but fans are obsessed. "She is joy in a bottle," one user wrote on social media. "I absolutely love @AlisonHammond and she has lifted the show to another level," another added.

Who was eliminated on episode one?

Despite coming in second during the technical challenge, Amos was eliminated from the series after his whale cake fell short during the Showstopper challenge. The judges called his creation "stodgy" with "no flavor." "It's not your best," Prue declared.
