In case you missed it, the 2021 Billboard Music Awards were held on Sunday, May 23 and looks were absolutely served. The BBMAs was one of the first publicly-held award ceremonies since the distribution of COVID-19 vaccines began in the United States, so your favorite celebs turned out.

I couldn't help but notice that there was a common trend at this year's ceremony: graphic eyeliner. The makeup looks mainly consisted of black and blue cat-eye shapes with negative space. Dixie D'Amelio, Doja Cat and Saweetie all pulled up to the BBMAs with intricate eye looks straight from my beauty-obsessed dreams and I already know they're going to be my makeup inspo all summer long.

If you're anything like me and scrambling to recreate these graphic eyeliner looks, look no further. Read on for tips, tricks and products you'll need to successfully achieve the trend.

At the BBMAs, Saweetie opted for a classic cat-eye and to be honest, I don't blame her. The soft glam look is both glamorous and timeless, which is perfect for any event.

How to achieve the look

  1. Prep your eyelids for makeup application with an eye primer.

  2. Lightly set the eye primer with translucent powder or a skin-colored eyeshadow.

  3. Swipe a light brown shadow into your crease with a fluffy blending brush. Use windshield wiper motions to blend the shadow. Pro tip: Also blend upwards in a circular motion for a seamless blend.

  4. Gently work in a darker brown shadow into the crease with a dense blending brush. Use both windshield wiper and circular motions to blend into the light brown shadow.

  5. Use a felt-tip eyeliner to create a cat-eye wing. Pro tip: Start by sketching a line from the outer corner and connect the liner from the tip.

  6. Apply mascara and false lashes if desired.

Dixie's look taps into the intricacy of graphic liner, so it requires a little more patience and a steady hand. What sets Dixie's eyes apart from other looks is the gemstone accents placed on the liner. It's the perfect touch of glam, if you ask me.

How to achieve the look

  1. Prep your eyelids for makeup application with an eye primer.

  2. Lightly set the eye primer with translucent powder or a skin-colored eyeshadow.

  3. With a felt tip liner, create a cat-eye shape as outlined above.

  4. Start sketching a new line into the crease by connecting the tip to your cat-eye wing. Bring it forward to create a line above your crease and add a small line above the shape in the outer corner.

  5. Apply gems along the liner with tweezers and adhesive. Pro tip: Lash adhesive is great for achieving this look as it's safe to use around the eyes.

  6. Apply mascara and false lashes if desired.

BBMA winner Doja Cat has been rocking intricate eye looks lately, so it's no surprise that she donned two different looks for the awards. For her red carpet look, Doja's makeup artist Ernesto Casillas created a futuristic negative-space look with hydra liners and wispy false lashes that fan out toward the outer corner of the eye.

How to achieve the look

  1. Prep your eyelids for makeup application with an eye primer.

  2. Lightly set the eye primer with translucent powder or a skin-colored eyeshadow.

  3. With a small angled brush and hydra liner, gently carve out your desired shape. Pro Tip: To mimic Doja's look, start with an angled line on the outer corner and connect the rounded shape to the tip.

  4. With a clean flat brush, add a pop of color to the inner and outer corner.

  5. Apply mascara and false lashes if desired.
