There's good news for fans who are craving more of their favorite crime-solving vicar. Grantchester season 8 is rapidly approaching!
To whet our appetites for even more mystery, PBS has released the first trailer for the upcoming season with some tantalizing hints of what's to come, promising drama, danger, and the makings of a serious crisis of faith. Watch the full trailer above.

Season eight premieres on Sunday, July 9, 2023 at 9 p.m. eastern on PBS.
What will season 8 be about?
An official synopsis offers some tantalizing hints of what lies ahead for the Cambridgeshire crime-solvers.
Will is the happiest he’s ever been but his world will be rocked by a terrible accident. He’s always preached the word of a compassionate God – but how can he now, when his despair leads him on a dangerous downward spiral?
Geordie has found a new contentment in his relationship with Cathy, but when they are both confronted with shocking announcements at work their happiness is threatened. As Mrs. C, Leonard, Jack and Daniel rally around, both Will and Geordie find themselves in unfamiliar, emotional waters and murder is always around the corner.
The eighth season of Grantchester will range from Speedway to spies, exploring the lives of invisible women and the very visible problems caused by Leonard’s new vocation which may, once again, find him battling the law.
Exploring faith, forgiveness, and redemption – this explosive series tests Will and Geordie to the limit.
The cast
In a spot of good news for fans, Tom Brittney will return for season eight as Reverend Will Davenport as will Robson Green as his crime-solving partner DI Geordie Keating. Other returning cast members include Tessa Peake-Jones (Mrs. Chapman), Al Weaver (Leonard Finch), Kacey Ainsworth (Cathy Keating), Oliver Dimsdale (Daniel Marlowe), and Nick Brimble (Jack Chapman). Former Call the Midwife star Charlotte Ritchie will also be reprising her role as Bonnie from the show's seventh season.
Grantchester is based on a book series.
If the wait for season eight feels too long, you can still get your fix with more vicarly sleuthing in The Grantchester Mysteries—a series of six collections of short stories by James Runcie. The books focus on the character Sidney Chambers, who also served as the main character on the show Grantchester for the first four seasons (played by James Norton) before Will Davenport (Tom Brittney) was introduced. The books were partially inspired by Runcie's father, Robert Runcie, the former Archbishop of Canterbury.
