In a marriage, somethings are better left unsaid - like that time you ate the last cookie, or your husband's favorite sweater shrunk in the wash. Raising a litter of stray kittens in the back yard on the other hand … not something that can be easily glossed over. An 85-year-old from Puerto Rico, however, did just that, and kept it a secret from his wife for weeks.
Jimmy's neighborhood is full of cats, and he frequently leaves food around his yard for them. His wife isn't quite as fond of the idea of letting stray animals hangout in the yard, so when Jimmy's favorite cat needed a place to give birth, he decided not to tell his wife he was keeping a litter of kittens in his backyard shed .... whoops.
Jimmy's granddaughter Syl recently took to Twitter to share her grandpa's covert project with people everywhere.
my grandpa let a stray cat have her kittens in his tool shed and now he's raising a bunch of cats behind my grandmas back bc she said no- syl (@lillsyl) March 9, 2017
"My grandpa let a stray cat have her kittens in his tool shed and now he's raising a bunch of cats behind my grandmas back because she said no," she wrote on Twitter.
Syl told The DoDo that after frequently leaving the strays food, Jimmy became attached to one cat that was particularly fond of him. So when he found out his favorite feline was having babies, he couldn't resist opening up his tool shed as a home for the expecting mom.
The best part? The cat finally gave birth, and Jimmy's wife still had no idea what was going on in the backyard. Needless to say, people are loving Syl's story about her grandpa, and many have commented about how happy they are that the kittens found a temporary home.
@lillsyl What an amazing man your grandpa is! Thanks for sharing and please thank him for his kindness to our animals.- Mindyourownhoolahoop (@Mindyrhulahoop) April 5, 2017
@lillsyl Your grandpa is awesome, I just want to give him a hug. Is there a shelter or rescue he likes that I could donate to in his name?- Sam Garrity (@sammgarrity) March 30, 2017
"My grandpa is really kind and has always loved animals," Syl told The DoDo. "So it's not really that surprising."
Obviously, Jimmy was unable to keep the kittens hidden forever. Three weeks after mama cat gave birth, he finally revealed what had been going on, and in the end, his wife fell in love with the kittens too. She even told Jimmy they could stay in the shed until they found permanent owners.
Despite their disagreement, this couple is definitely in love ... and now they have a litter of kittens they can find homes for, together. Adorable!
