  • Those who carefully watch the Royal Family took notice of an omission in terms of social media posts this year.

  • As it turns out, King Charles III failed to publicly acknowledge the birthday of his granddaughter Lilibet.

  • Royal experts suggest this indicates a strained relationship between members of the Royal Family, which can probably also be gleaned from... you know, all the other stuff going on.

If you've got senior relatives on Facebook, you'd probably have a hard time believing there's anybody out there who feels that a 74-year-old man should be posting on social media more. But in the case of King Charles III, Royal watchers took notice of a certain post the monarch failed to make, and Royal experts have opinions on its omission. (But then again, when don't they have opinions on these things?)

As a report on MSN notes, the current kerfuffle revolves around the conflict between Harry and Meghan and the broader Royal family. (Just once, don't you just kinda wish it was about something else? Let's get some drama around, like, Zara Tindall for a change.)

"The Royals always make sure to congratulate each other on social media," MSN notes, acknowledging that last year, there were social media "shoutouts" for Harry, Archie, and Lilibet on their respective birthdays.

"This year, however, appears to be different. The radio silence from royal social media accounts has been in full effect. That Archie didn’t get a royal ‘happy birthday’ through social media was not all that surprising, considering the royals had their hands full with King Charles’ coronation the same day. But for Lilibet, the case is different.

Royal experts have accused King Charles of snubbing his granddaughter as he didn’t take to social media to mark her birthday. Interestingly, there was no social media message from Prince William and Kate Middleton either."

Yes, apparently the Royal Family social media accounts were a bit too busy to post about Lilibet's birthday. But they did celebrate the anniversary of a train:

So what could this mean? According to Royal expert RS Locke, "King Charles’s decision not to publicly acknowledge his granddaughter’s birthday, nor Prince Archie’s last month, is a reflection of their strained relationship and likely an indication of the social media practices going forward."

And perhaps it's for the best. Harry and Meghan have talked about wanting privacy (so much that it was the subject of South Park mockery), and Charles apparently still wants to give his granddaughter a gift. So who really needs a public social media post at all? Other than us in the public, who care way too deeply about the palace intrigue of supposed snubs and rivalries. In the end, as long as Lilibet had a good birthday, that's all that really matters.
