You will believe a Gamer can drive in the second trailer for Gran Turismo, the film adaptation of Sony’s long-running racing simulator.

Directed by Neill Blomkamp (District 9, Elysium), Gran Turismo tells the true story of Jann Mardenborough (Archie Madekwe), a skilled Gran Turismo player bent on testing his talents in the real world. Here, one wrong move means more than game over. It could very likely result in death, which would prevent you ever again playing the video game Gran Turismo.

But Jann is willing to take that risk. As is his father figure turned trainer David Harbour, who shouts inspirational soundbites such as “Get in the fight!” and “Like it or not, you are in this race!”, and his PR guy Orlando Bloom.

One man who's less supportive is dowdy dad Djimon Hounsou, a blue collar worker who doesn’t believe in the power of video games. His son will have to win him over with his car-driving skills, proving that playing video games all day every day can indeed put food on the table, but only if you’re in the global top 0.01% of players.

Notably, his mother is played by the unlikely figure of former Spice Girl Geri Halliwell-Horner, who hasn’t acted in a Hollywood film since 2009’s Crank 2: High Voltage. She’s already got one foot in the racing world, having married Red Bull Racing Principal Christian Horner in 2015.

Gran Turismo speeds into cinemas August 9. You’ve watched the battles on the track, now see every battle in the Napoleon trailer.
