The Grammys honor victims of Las Vegas and Manchester concert attacks
During the 60th Grammy Awards, Maren Morris helped introduce a special tribute to the victims of the deadly Las Vegas and Manchester concert attacks. Morris, along with Eric Church and the Brothers Osborne, sang a rendition of Eric Clapton’s “Tears in Heaven.”
The Las Vegas shooting took place in October during the Route 91 Harvest country music festival. Fifty-eight people were killed and hundreds were injured when a gunman opened fire on unsuspecting fans.
To introduce the performance, Morris said, “Tonight, to honor those we lost, Eric Church, Brothers Osborne and I — who all performed in Las Vegas that tragic weekend — wanted to come together to honor the memory of the beautiful, music-loving souls so cruelly taken from us.”
Morris also mentioned the suicide bombing that left 22 Ariana Grande concert-goers dead in May. She said, “A few months earlier and a continent away, the same was true in Manchester, England.”
While the country stars sang the tribute, lightboxes behind them illuminated with the names of the victims, along with messages. It was a very powerful performance, and one of the most memorable performances of the night.
The 60th annual Grammy Awards took place in New York City on Jan. 28.
