The first Grammy Awards were held in 1959. In over 60 years, there have been a lot of changes to music, and to fashion.

Here's how Grammy fashion has evolved over six decades.
1.Duke Ellington was one of the big winners at the second Grammy ceremony in 1959. It was one of two ceremonies that were held that year, but only the second was televised.
2.The next ceremony came in 1961. Here's Bob Newhart and Nat King Cole looking dapper at the affair.
3.Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention were having a blast at the 1968 Grammys in more casual outfits worn at the event at the time.
4.Eydie Gorme and Dionne Warwick beamed at the 1969 Grammys.
5.Henry Mancini and Joni Mitchell were two of the big winners in 1970. Men continued to be split between formal and casual attire, while many women in attendance started going for more formal looks.
6.The Carpenters missed out on Record of the Year and Album of the Year, but they did score Best New Artist in 1971. Richard went traditional, while Karen opted for something a little more timely with a more dressed-down vibe.
7.Aretha Franklin wore a sari-inspired, gold-embroidered red gown when she took home Best Female R&B Vocal Performance for "Bridge Over Troubled Water".
8.Isaac Hayes switched it up on the men that year, going for a robed look when he won his Grammy for the Shaft theme.
9.Cher was only a presenter at the 1974 Grammys, but her style didn't go unnoticed. Here, she and Roberta Flack share a fierce moment after Roberta's win for "Killing Me Softly With His Song."
10.David Bowie, Yoko Ono, and John Lennon were understated but unmissable at the 1975 Grammys.
11.On the other end of the spectrum, Bette Midler wore a 45 on her head, while Stevie Wonder rocked a patchwork suit.
12.Dolly Parton didn't come to play with her pink jumpsuit in 1977. Was this the first time something was bedazzled at the Grammys? Perhaps.

14.Rick James and Grace Jones were the whole moment at the 25th Annual Grammy Awards. Grace's straw/leather hat was the talk of the show.
15.The 1984 Grammys were all about Michael Jackson and Thriller. He showed up in one of his most iconic military-style outfits, with Brooke Shields and Emmanuel Lewis in tow.
16.The next year proved just as iconic as Tina Turner stole the show with a short, red, shimmery tank dress and fishnets. What's Love Got To Do With It? won both Record of the Year and Song of the Year.
17.Whitney Houston was stunning and fresh-faced at her first Grammys in 1986. She won Best Female Pop Vocal Performance for "Saving All My Love for You".
18.Prince brought matching to a whole other level when he picked polka dots down to the heels at the 1988 Grammys.
19.Paula Abdul brought in the '90s with a scrunchie that matched her gold, sparkly, midriff-baring outfit, and it was everything.
20.Mariah Carey made her Grammy debut in 1991 in a simple LBD with stockings. She was already Mariah before we knew she was M A R I A H.
21.In 1993, both Michael and Janet Jackson were nominated for Grammys. The sibling joy was pure and their matching white looks made it extra sweet.
