Grammy Awards 2018: Musicians Are Planning to Honor #TimesUp with a White Rose
First, it was the Golden Globes blackout. And now, it’s the musicians’ turn to take matters into their own hands by honoring the #TimesUp movement with a small—but meaningful—accessory.
According to Billboard, famous attendees are planning to wear a white rose pinned to their ensembles at the 2018 Grammy Awards. The movement is being led by Meg Harkins and Karen Rait, two music industry executives, who were inspired by the impact of the all-black dress code at the Golden Globes.
Harkins and Rait created the initiative on Monday when they invited 15 inspirational women in the music industry, dubbed the Voices in Entertainment, to dinner in New York City. The ladies decided on a white rose because the flower is “practical and traditional” and the color is symbolic of the women’s suffrage movement.
Voices in Entertainment launched the movement by sending a letter to their peers, writing, “Please join us in support of equal representation in the workplace, for leadership that reflects the diversity of our society, workplaces free of sexual harassment and a heightened awareness of accountability that our sisters started on January 1st and continued through the Golden Globes and onward.”
