The Met Gala was graced by royalty. Charlotte Casiraghi, the granddaughter of Grace Kelly and a member of the Monégasque royal family, attended the Karl Lagerfeld–themed evening.
It makes sense she is in attendance at the event: Not only is she a Chanel Ambassador, but she was also close with Lagerfeld himself. The late designer, notably, was one of her mentors, as he was a longtime friend of her mother, Princess Caroline of Monaco. “He had a passion for certain women writers,” she told Town & Country in her cover story last year. “It’s something he really gave me access to at a young age.”
In a sleek look, Charlotte wore a Chanel black lace dress on the carpet from the brand’s fall 1996 couture collection, and Chanel black grosgrain sandals. Late last year, Chanel creative director Virginie Viard told Town & Country said that Charlotte “embodies the Chanel allure all while remaining true to her own world.”
Charlotte’s typical style, she told T&C, is a far cry from her ensemble tonight. She’s more often found in “trainers, T-shirt, and blazer. It’s not that I necessarily like to dress like that, but with children, I have no space in my mind to pick a cool outfit.”
The royal has been a regular at the Met Gala over the years, but her last Met Gala appearance came in 2019 at the “Notes on Camp”–themed evening. In 2019, she also wore all black, that time opting for a high-low dress by Saint Laurent:
In 2018, she also wore all black to for the “Heavenly Bodies” theme:
It’s no surprise then that she once again wore all black tonight.
