  • CBS announced it was cancelling Elementary in 2018.

  • The hit show starring Jonny Lee Miller and Lucy Liu will end after season 7.

  • Here's when the series finale will likely air.

Elementary fans were devastated when news broke that the CBS series would not return for an eighth season. The popular crime drama starring Jonny Lee Miller as Sherlock Holmes and Lucy Liu as the clever Dr. Joan Watson has been a favorite since it began in 2012, but all good things must come to an end, I guess (sobs).

Though we’re all feeling a little nostalgic knowing that the current storylines are the last, it’s nice that there’s still some time left before we have to say goodbye for good. So when, exactly, should you mark your calendars for the Elementary series finale?

CBS hasn’t shared the exact final date yet, but it will likely be in August. According to Deadline, we were promised 13 episodes in season 7. Episode 8, titled “Miss Understood,” airs this week, so if the lineup goes uninterrupted, that puts episode 13 on August 15. That said, networks often do have to switch up their schedules, so it’s possible it will run later that month.

But wait, why was 'Elementary' cancelled?

You may be wondering why Elementary was axed in the first place. Apparently, the decision was made way back in season 6.

“A lot of parties came together and talked about their positions on the show—both in terms of business and in terms of creative—and we all decided that this was an opportune time to say goodbye to a show that has been very, very good to us,” CBS Entertainment President Kelly Kahl said at the time.

The executive producer, Carl Beverly, also added that the team as a whole felt like they “accomplished” what they set out to do.

“The actors, the crew, and the staff feel that way, and we feel that. So [we] are grateful and celebrating what we had and looking forward to the future,” Carl said.

Okay, but does that future include a sequel?!
