Grab churros and coffee from this new Gem of Tampa Bay

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Craving something sweet? Grab and a churro and some coffee from this new Gem of Tampa Bay located in South Tampa.

Casa Azul is a Hispanic-owned churreria that makes fresh churros coated in cinnamon sugar.

“Since I was little, it was typical for us to go get churros with my cousins and my grandmother,” said Carlos Cendejas, Casa Azul’s founder and co-owner.

Cendejas is originally from Mexico City and opened the business with his partner, Gabriella Lemmerman, who he met while at the University of Tampa.

“Being an immigrant and coming here to the states, is not easy, but I believe that there is a lot of opportunity and if you do things the right way, you will be rewarded,” Cendejas said.

Customers can choose different sauces to dip their churros in, such as chocolate and dulce de leche.

Casa Azul opened in February and their food truck is located right next to the Original Westshore Pizza on Westshore Boulevard.

The new spot also serves up drinks like dulce de leche macchiatos, horchata lattes and a bourbon vanilla bean latte.

“Everything from the music from the experience, from the smells, everything goes very well together,” Cendejas said.

Casa Azul is open Tuesday and Wednesday from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m.; Thursday from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.; Friday from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.; Saturday from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. and on Sunday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.

You can check out the rest of their menu on the churreria’s website.
