If you're in the camp that has simply been listening to "Running Up That Hill" over and over again, then we have the perfect Volume Two primer for you. Netflix just dropped a fascinating look at what arguably ended up being the defining scene of this season's first batch of episodes. You know the one: Vecna makes a mad attempt to take Max's life—even conjuring a vision of her fallen stepbrother, Billy—but is ultimately thwarted when the crew of kiddos learns that music can slow down the villain. The song that plays over the scene, of course, is Kate Bush's "Running Up That Hill." But did you ever wonder how Stranger Things pulled off the filming of the scene, which looks surprisingly photorealistic?
Before the final episodes of the season drop, you should check out the behind-the-scenes video. In the clip, Sadie Sink (who plays Max in the series) and the director of the episode, Shawn Levy, dutifully break down the practical versus CGI effects in the runaway moment. Turns out that a significant chunk of Vecna's lair—and even Vecna himself, as many fans have learned—was built by the Stranger Things crew. Even the gooey mush Max has to run through to make her way back to Dustin and co. was real.
