"Gossip Girl" Reboot Is Bringing Back Kristen Bell as Narrator

Attention Upper East Siders, and Dan Humphrey, we've got some exciting news regarding the Gossip Girl reboot. Details regarding the upcoming HBO Max series have remained a bit scarce, but there is now one bit of major, and very good news — our favorite all-knowing narrator is returning.

Kristen Bell, who played the OG voice of Gossip Girl, has been confirmed to reprise her speaking role in the reboot, TV Line reports. The brains behind the reboot (and the original), Josh Schwartz and Stephane Savage, confirmed the news in a statement to TV Line, saying, "Kristen Bell has always been and will always be the voice of Gossip Girl." Xoxo, amen.

Prior to today's confirmation, Kristen Bell had remained mysterious regarding her possible return. When previously asked about re-joining the world of lavish teenage parties that seemingly have no budget and adults with too much time on their hands, she said, "Maybe. I’ll never tell.”

As previously reported, Gossip Girl is set to premiere on HBO Max, a brand new streaming service, in 2020. The show will start with a reported ten episodes, and as far as the modern-day update goes, the crew confirmed that some changes are in store. According to The Hollywood Reporter, social media will play a major role, with the show set to take place eight years after GG ended.

Josh also detailed how the update would take a different tone than the original, saying, "We’re excited about being able to tell us a different version of the story, and with different levels of restrictions, and obviously, also with streaming, there’s fewer episodes. So how you unpack those stories, or how you tell those stories can obviously vary different from a broadcast model. But obviously, we want it all to kind of come out of character. What feels organic to the tone of the show won’t be button pushing just for the sake of being able to do it. Maybe a couple ‘sh*ts’ will [get] thrown in there just because we can.”

There's no confirmed word on who else from Gossip Girl's past may return, but I would officially like to ask that Serena van der Woodsen's cousin Charlie remain a distant memory.
