"Gossip Girl" Memes Featuring Serena and Blair Have Taken Over the Internet
Hey Upper East Siders, Gossip Girl besties Serena van der Woodsen and Blair Waldorf have been spotted tearing up the internet once again, but this time around it isn't their scandalous shenanigans making them the talk of the town. Nope, it's a Gossip Girl meme so wonky and basic that it's actually kind of genius — and it has all of us chuckling to ourselves.
Here's the dealio. The meme features Blake Lively's Serena up top, asking a question or making a statement, then Leighton Meester's Blair below retorting back with some sort of anagram or edit of the term "gossip girl." The image looks to be taken from a season one promo shot of the beloved teen drama.
Per Know Your Meme, the remixes started the week of April 13, and it looks like Twitter user @baro_tokiyo is the one to have kicked things off. "This is testing what little sanity I have left," they wrote, before then having Serena say, "i have to pee." Blair's response? "go p*ss girl." It makes more sense with the visual below:
These Gossip Girl memes are fully bonkers and that's what makes them so great. Over the past couple of days, people have been cooking up their own iterations. S, you don't know who Peppa Pig is? Don't worry, B has got you covered, as always. Trying to brush up on some SAT questions? My money is on Miss Waldorf for coming prepared.

On top of it all, people have even been getting a bit political or explaining some good ol' U.S. history with the meme. In one mega-popular example, Serena asks, "Why did the US invade Iraq?"

With lots of people feeling stressed out and anxious due to the current coronavirus pandemic, it makes sense that the collective internet humor would devolve into this sort of ludicrous meme. And this isn't the first time we've seen Gossip Girl get some viral love over the past couple of years. Remember when Netflix described the show as: "Rich, unreasonably attractive private school students do horrible, scandalous things to each other. Repeatedly"? Now that was classic.
