The New Gossip Girl Cast Recreated the Show's Most Iconic Shot

Photos from the production of HBO Max's Gossip Girl reboot have been trickling in, but it looks like the original series's most iconic location just got a visit from the new cast. Fans of the hit teen drama, which originally aired from 2007-2012, will undoubtedly remember the steps of New York City's Metropolitan Museum of Art, which set the stage for one of the show's opening shots.
The new cast, which includes Eli Brown, Zion Moreno, Jordan Alexander, Tavi Gevinson, Emily Alyn Lind, Savannah Smith, and Thomas Doherty, paid those hallowed steps a visit, giving fans a glimpse at what Gossip Girl 2.0 will look like — and give them time to mentally and emotionally prepare for a series without Blair Waldorf and Serena van der Woodsen.

Back in September, Warner Bros. told Variety that the 10-episode series was set to start its post-COVID-lockdown production in Vancouver, NYC, and Los Angeles. On Twitter, showrunner Joshua Safran (he served as an executive producer and writer on the first Gossip Girl) told fans that the show would be "very, very queer" and quite different from the original CW series, since a "majority" of the characters would be "diverse and/or queer." The show is set to premiere in 2021 and is set eight years after the events of the first series.

He also mentioned that the new Gossip Girl would be using everything modern-day tech has to offer, so viewers can expect more than blog posts and mobile alerts.
Gossip Girl definitely takes advantage of current technology. It was a challenge until it wasn't, if that makes any sense. And then it becomes one of the fun parts!

Kristen Bell will be returning to narrate the show as Gossip Girl. There's no news of other cast members returning — yet. Blake Lively starred as van der Woodsen, Leighton Meester as Waldorf, Penn Badgley as Dan Humphrey, Chace Crawford as Nate Archibald, Ed Westwick as Chuck Bass, Kelly Rutherford as Lily van der Woodsen, and Matthew Settle as Rufus Humphrey on the original run, which was loosely based on books by Cecily von Ziegesar.
Safran said that he hopes that some of that first cast would be back and that their characters are most definitely getting mentions on the new show. Cue all the wild fan theories about what Serena, Blair, and Co. are up to now. Whatever they're doing, it's all happening under the watchful eye of Gossip Girl (something tells us that it's not Dan this time around). GG's got a new cadre of kids to keep an eye on now, but something tells us that she — or he — never stopped tracking those Constance Billard girls.
As the show takes place in the same universe as the original, I hope at some point people might drop by. And as this version is set in 2021, 4 years after the end of the original's flash-forward, there will be mentions here and there as those people are still around!
