Artist Evelin Toledano is half-Swedish and half-Spanish, and says that it’s this combination of both of her backgrounds that defines her art and her interior design styles. Her Scandinavian side offers up a love of pared-back simplicity, whereas her Spanish roots bring a love of expressive color.

“We bring that style into our interior design choices — keeping the background canvas minimal, bright, and white and allowing the high ceilings and daylight to accentuate accent colors and highlight distinctive pieces of art in the space,” writes Evelin, who shares her rental apartment with her partner, writer and comedian Oliver Bussell.

Evelin and Oliver actually discovered this apartment before renting it. “Our friends were living in the apartment, and we came over to cat-sit a few times before we moved to Barcelona,” Evelin explains. “Of course, we were immediately blown away by the views of Sagrada Familia, but also the high, vaulted ceilings and the incredible amount of light throughout the whole apartment.”

Being able to see THE Sagrada Familia from their stunning terrace is one of their favorite elements about the 915-square-foot apartment they’ve rented for two years. But the couple also loves the white vaulted ceilings a lot.

“They amplify the afternoon light and make the whole living space glow,” she admits. “We also love the accents of blue around the living/dining room. Some elements, like the blue chairs, we collected organically, but others, like our drinks cabinet, we designed and painted to complement the colors found in the art it would sit beside.”
